Stephen Willats is a conceptual artist whose work is situated at the intersection between art and disciplines including cybernetics, advertising systems research, learning theory, communications theory, and computer technology. Through multisensory installations that incorporate drawing, photography, audio, and film, he has developed a collaborative, interactive, and participatory practice grounded in the variables of social relationships and physical realities. His recent solo exhibitions have included presentations at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, England; Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich; Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City; and Whitechapel Gallery, London. His work is included in many public collections, including at Tate Modern, London; National Portrait Gallery, London; and Henry Moore Institute, Leeds.
