MAIO

Barcelona, Spain

MAIO is an architectural office based in Barcelona that explores inclusive spatial systems that adapt over time. Their work ranges from objects to urban-scale projects, using resilient architectural strategies to challenge biased social structures and engage with the complexity of everyday life. Recent projects include a social housing building in Sant Feliu and an urban kitchen for Mes que Cures, the care workers’ union in Poble Sec, Barcelona. Alongside practice, the team engages in academic, editorial, and research activities. They edited Quaderns d’Arquitectura i Urbanisme (2011–2016) and contribute to FAKTUR magazine. They currently teach at ETH Zurich, ETSAB/ETSAV in Barcelona, and Elisava, with previous roles at the Architectural Association in London and Columbia GSAPP. Their work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York, the Royal Academy in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, Triennale di Milano, and the Venice Biennale, and published in Monocle, Domus, A+U, Architectural Review, and Detail.
