Project Overview

During the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, Los Angeles based Machine Project is creating a series of events and actions, in and around the installations of Make New History, which will interpret, reimagine, or discuss the themes.

Machine Project collaborates with artists to do fun experiments, together with the public, in ways that influence culture. Founded in 2003 by artist Mark Allen, Machine Project began with the desire to create an informal community space where the public could participate in the creative process, generate ideas, and connect with contemporary art and culture in all its varied forms. Over the last 14 years, it has evolved into an informal collective of artists working together at locations ranging from beaches, to museums, to parking lots. Machine has produced shows with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Walker Museum in Minneapolis, and the Tang Teaching Museum in Saratoga Springs, New York, as well as over 1,000 events in Los Angeles at the Machine Project storefront space.

These events may or may not include indoor self-sailing blimps, an opera singer on a raft, and a cinematic psychic reading of the Chicago Cultural Center building.
