About the program
This half-day symposium accompanying the Ecologies capsule exhibition at 840 N. Michigan Avenue. It will expand on the themes of the Ecologies capsule, bringing together diverse voices to discuss architecture’s evolving role within complex systems, natural and artificial, human and nonhuman. The program brings together artists, designers, scientists, and thinkers to reflect on how we might live, adapt, and thrive across a range of ecological conditions, both real and imagined.
Panels Include:
Urban Ecologies; 2:00 – 3:00 pm
This panel will explore design interventions at the architectural scale that shape more responsive, interconnected urban environments? This conversation looks closely at the role of architecture in fostering ecological and social resilience within cities. Moderated by Antonio Torres of Bittertang Farm, the roundtable brings together Estudio Flume, Worofila, Estudio Planta, and Besler and Sons to explore how built form can operate as an ecological agent.
Possible Futures; 3:30 – 4:30 pm
What solutions emerge when we approach design and architecture at the planetary scale? This roundtable considers how global ecological, cultural, and material systems intersect with the built environment, and how architects can shape more adaptive and interconnected futures. Moderated by Alejandro Haiek from Laboratory of Intersectional Ecologies, the conversation features Guillermo Parada of gt2P, and Arturo Ghezzi Novak and Gustavo Ghezzi Novak representing Blanco, Estudio Jochamowitz Rivera, and Ghezzi Novak.
City as Home; 4:30 – 5:30pm
How can architecture and design contribute to the creation of social programs that make cities more livable, inclusive, and resilient? This roundtable, moderated by Juan Du, brings together Clare Lyster, Monica Ponce de Leon, Stewart Hicks and Ibanez Kim to explore strategies at the urban scale. Panelists will explore how design can generate new models for living and adapting in uncertain futures.
