About the program

Concéntrico: Ten Years Reflecting on the City Through Contemporary Practices

at University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Architecture

845 W Harrison St, Chicago, IL 60607

Concéntrico is an urban innovation laboratory that invites us to reflect on the city through contemporary practices: architecture and design as tools to strengthen the community and propose new collective uses in public space, promoting a shared experience.

The project began its journey in 2015 as the Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design, developing more than 150 interventions in ten years. The 2025 season of Concéntrico, which took place from June 19 to June 24, was presented with a renewed focus that included a variety of initiatives and formats, consolidating a decade of innovations in architecture and urbanism.

By expanding its footprint and establishing new dates in different locations, Concéntrico seeks to revitalize the dialogue between designers and communities, enriching the festival experience and its relevance in the current context.

Coinciding with the publication of Concéntrico: Urban Innovation Laboratory (Park Books, 2025), Javier Peña Ibáñez, founder and director of the international architecture and design festival Concéntrico, will share the experience of organizing the festival since its foundation in 2015. Chicago architecture firms Design With Company and BairBalliet, participants in Concéntrico in 2023 and 2025 with installations supported by MAS Context, will share their projects for the festival.

This program is organized by MAS Context and the UIC School of Architecture. It accompanies the exhibition Concéntrico: Urban Innovation Laboratory, organized by MAS Context and the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago.
