About the program

BREAKTHROUGH: Housing Futures

at National Public Housing Museum

919 S Ada St., Chicago, IL 60607

Open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This immersive exhibition creates an experimental living room and learning space for conversations about affordable housing—past, present, and future. BREAKTHROUGH blends historical documentation of ambitious HUD demonstration projects from the 1970s with new prototypes from The Housing Futures Initiative, led by Alexander Eisenschmidt. The work challenges social, cultural, and economic conventions of housing by rethinking the design, materials, and construction of urban living.
