Join us for an exciting online event featuring a lively discussion with the 2023 CCC Making History Come Alive Through Words Poetry Competition winners (Estelle Wong, William Fremd High School; Nora Wunsch, Jones College Prep; and Justin Simpson, Kenwood Academy) and Chicago’s Poet Laureate, avery r. young. This is a unique opportunity to hear from young poets who were the winners of CCC’s Making History Come Alive Poetry Competion, an annual contest held in partnership with CCC members Chicago Public Library and the Poetry Foundation that requires high school students to go to CCC’s EXPLORE CHICAGO COLLECTIONS portal and be inspired by archival collections to create their poem. In this discussion the students and avery r. young will share their inspirations, creative processes, and the issues that drive their powerful words. Don’t miss this chance to engage with the future voices of poetry and gain insight from the accomplished Chicago Poet Laureate.
