3rd Place: Graphic Design | Little Village by Manuel Diaz

Grade: 11th

What makes the neighborhood that I have chosen a unique and important place to visit is that in Little Village is a really nice place where you can visit a lot of the Mexican-American (Chicano) culture expressed in murals all over chicago but specifically in little village. In all the murals you can find The Virgen Of Guadalupe who is the Queen of all the mexicans, famous mexican artist like Frida Kahlo, Cesar Chavez, etc. You can also find a lot of El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and the famous la catrina. What makes Little Village a good place to visit is the Mexican street food, the restaurants, and the many candy stores. Little Village is a little part of Mexico in the U.S that shows a lot of people how we celebrate and how our culture is and how delicious and traditional our food is. Little Village has made my community feel like we are home  like we are in our country that we left many years ago to find a better life in this country and it has kept our traditions and culture alive. Everytime we go there we can feel a little bit of Mexico, where many people are not able to visit for many circumstances. It gives them a little memory of how their country is. Little Village will keep our culture alive expressed in those murals that reveal the history of the Mexicans that have passed through in the US and Mexico. Little Village is the place to go and have a great experience.
