1st Place | Wonderland by Zoe Meyer, Helen Prekop, and Amina Riendeau

Grade: 7

I chose the garden prompt because when you live in a city as big as Chicago, it can be hard to find a peaceful place where you can relax. I think that our city should have more gardens throughout, not just mostly by the lake.

My submission reflects how some people feel boxed into their neighborhood. They feel like everything is the same all the time, which is why I designed a space that was out of the ordinary. In my neighborhood I would like to see a place where people consider nature and to their best to help it grow.

In the city, there is not a lot of plant life. I think it would be nice if there was a place close by that was peaceful and quiet. I also thought that it would be a nice place to go to escape the city, like how Alice escapes the real world to go to Wonderland.

The reason I chose the Alice in Wonderland theme is because I think that it would bring joy and happiness to the city after these hard years. My goal for this garden is that it will inspire people to think outside the box and be their true selves. I also hope that it will inspire people to consider adding more plants into their lives.

I think that many people would enjoy walking up the winding path, under an array of colored lights, or sitting under the mushroom themed gazebo.
