We Take Care of Us
This conversation explores the ways Chicago’s house community honors its past while supporting its present members through a practice and politics of love. Panelists will cover the importance of community fundraisers, imagining and supporting youth social spaces, and ways to prioritize the community’s physical health. DJ set and lecture with Duane Powell. An installation honoring members of the house community we have lost in the past several years will also be activated.
Panel includes Carla Elmore, Kelli Walker & Maurice Chaytor, moderated by Darlene Jackson. We ask those to bring along copies of photos, material, or other ephemera you would like to have archived or leave at the memorial.
Event hosted by Honey Pot Performance - Chicago Black Social Culture Map in collaboration with Project H.O.O.D and their Woodlawn Canopies Exhibition, an outdoor installation featured as part of the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
