Porcelain Utopia: Mid-Century Lustron homes in Illinois and Beyond, Photographs by Dirk Fletcher

This exhibition presents a glimpse of the 350+ Lustron Homes Dirk Fletcher has photographed over the last 3 years. In light of a shortage of homes, the Lustron Corporation created prefabricated enameled steel houses (the same 2x2 ft. porcelain building blocks in limited colors) that were intended for returning World War II G.I.s. It produced over 2500 homes, and it's estimated that 1800 homes are still standing albeit with varied looks and conditions.
