The Branch Spooktacular

Join us for some spooky fun as we celebrate Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos at The Branch, a garden space at the Douglass Branch Library that's been re-designed by teens and young adults from the North Lawndale and Little Village neighborhoods throughout the summer and fall of 2021 for the Chicago Architecture Biennial.

We'll be:

  1. Making haunted birdhouses
  2. Decorating sugar skulls
  3. Candle making
  4. Creating a community ofrenda to celebrate loved ones
  5. Having an open mic
  6. Costume photo booth
  7. Hosting a costume contest with a prize!

Plus, bring a memento, picture, or object that represents a loved one or yourself. The teen librarians, along with Soil Lab, will translate the mementos into a special North Lawndale Brick.

Come through to hang out in this new space with your community. All ages welcome!

This project was made possible by Danish Arts in Chicago and the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
