July 18 - December 31, 2017
Through its new exhibition, Between States, the Chicago Architecture Foundation asks 50 Chicago-based designers to identify an underappreciated, underperforming, or dilapidated physical asset in one of the city’s 50 wards, and imagine a process of transitioning it “between states:” from a physical liability to rejuvenated civic anchor; from an aging structure or inactive facility to an economic catalyst embedded with visible public benefits. The designers will apply lessons learned from completed built projects outside Chicago, in a dialogue between Illinois and the other 49 U.S. states, which have responded innovatively and successfully to similar concerns and conditions.
