Dan Peterman—Slipping and Jamming: Variable Installation of Z-Forms
Oct 3–Nov 30, 2017
Opening Reception: Tue, Oct 3, 6pm

The UChicago Arts, Science & Culture Initiative presents a temporary sculpture in the lobby of Eckhardt Research Center by Chicago- based international artist Dan Peterman (MFA’86), recently represented in the 2017 Documenta. The installation is composed of thousands of “Z-Forms” cut from post- consumer reprocessed plastic in the shape of a Z. Slipping and Jamming is created by randomly placing these elements, linking them by friction rather than fasteners. The elements autonomously configure to attain load-bearing capability. Supported by the University of Chicago Public Art Committee.
